Basketball

Now that Logan is three, he can play sports at the YMCA, so I promptly signed him up for a pee wee basketball clinic. On the first day, he wouldn't go near the ball, the coach, the other kids, or even his jersey. Later that day I discovered that he had a fever of 104 degrees...perhaps that was his problem. He missed the second session that week because he was still sick, and then went back this week. We had many tears when he learned that mommy was FORCING him to go back AND was going to LEAVE him there and not watch. I knew he'd participate better if I didn't stay. (Side note: Logan has always been nervous to try new things. When he was old enough to start Nursery at church, he spent the first FOUR months standing in one spot watching the other children.) Well, this week they were refinishing the gym floors, so they couldn't actually play basketball either day. They played soccer outside instead, and he loved it. Now that the clinic is half over, he has yet to touch a basketball. I wonder if he's going to get nervous again on Tuesday when they are back in the gym...

An Equation

1 sick mommy = fighting children + time outs + mischief

Suspect #1

Suspect #2
I think they both look guilty. Hooray for nap time!

Modesty

I really do try to dress my children modestly young as they are, but lately it's been very difficult with Annie. She's got a cute tummy and she knows it.

FHE

For family home evening this week, we made a huge mess outside and had a blast! First, I made ooblique (1 cup cornstarch + 1/2 cup dyed water) and we played in it. If you have never played in this stuff before you have to try it; it feels solid when you push on it, and acts like a liquid when you don't...totally fascinating. I never get tired of it. Anyway, this was the first time I've done it with my kids, and we all had fun. Logan didn't really like getting his hands messy, so he eventually washed them and watched us. Annie loved sticking her fingers in it and then into her mouth. Apparently, she enjoys the taste of cornstarch!

THEN...I added more water (add 1/2 cup) to turn it into sidewalk paint. We used regular sponges to decorate our patio. Logan was happy to use a sponge to do this since it didn't make his hands so messy. Annie mostly sucked on her sponge (that delicious cornstarch!)

Cuties

Check out those blue eyes!

Beach Party?

It may appear that we were having a beach party in the kitchen, but that is not the case. My good little helpers were drying the newly cleaned floor for me.

Where Have We Been?

Let's just say it's been a busy month, and leave it at that. The next several posts are my attempt to catch up...

Happy Birthday

Our boy is 3! He had his birthday last Monday, and we celebrated at a park. All of our in-town parents/ siblings made it which was really nice. Logan has been talking about his birthday ever since Annie's (back in March). I think that's when he realized what a birthday party was. So the days before his birthday had much anticipation. He was very excited to have a cake and presents. That morning, he woke up and told me, "I want my birthday cake now." He was disappointed not to have it for breakfast, but was a good sport about it.

Opening presents...I don't have pictures of all of his presents, but he received a great assortment, and he was equally excited about them all. Everyone brought him things that fit into his favorite categories.

My dad brought him new cars and a cool track to go with them. It does a complete loop, and sends an airplane flying when the car goes around the loop. It's been permanently set up in our living room for a week...it's that much fun.

He's been obsessed with Toy Story for a long time; so my mom and sister brought him Woody and Buzz Lightyear. He also received a Toy Story shirt and pajamas...guess what he wants to wear every day? Maybe he won't need to obsess over these toys at his friends' houses anymore...

He also LOVES camping, so Jim's family bought him some camping gear of his VERY OWN. They even took him camping on Friday, and he got to use it.

Puzzles from us...these were more something that I wanted for my children, and I actually told Logan that they are for Annie too so he wouldn't think he could claim them. (Although he's been great about sharing his presents, except the vacuum cleaner...more about that later.) Both kids have enjoyed these more than I expected, though, and they have been constantly out with all of the other new toys.

His train "cake". It's actually a rice-krispy treat dyed blue. I had this great idea that it would be easier than a cake (which it was) and that I'd do all sorts of cool decorating because I didn't have to deal with frosting as much. My 'cool decorating' never materialized because I was feeling miserable that entire day. I worked on it until Logan said it looked like a train, then I had to lay down. (The other side doesn't even have wheels.)

The vacuum cleaner...
This present is not pictured above...and it probably deserves its own blog post. When everyone asked me what to get Logan I told them his favorite categories: Toy Story, camping, and cleaning (I didn't have to say cars because that's been ongoing for two years). I said cleaning because Logan has always wanted to help me clean (unless it means picking up his own mess) and he constantly plays with my vacuum cleaner and broom. I've been contemplating for the last year getting him a mini-broom or a push-vac. So my mom went out and found this 3-pound vacuum cleaner. It is very real. When he opened it at the park, he wasn't very excited, and my mom explained that he received this strange present because of ME.

Well, the very first thing he wanted to "play" with when we got home was the vacuum cleaner. He vacuumed for at least 30 min. before looking at anything else. He's continued to use it in turn with his other presents every single day. I'm so proud. I wish I could say that I no longer need to vacuum our carpet, but his favorite areas to clean don't include the dining room or the edges of any room.

The best part: MY 3 YEAR OLD OWNS HIS VERY OWN VACUUM! How many 3 year olds can say that?
Still contemplating the mini-broom...

Happy Birthday buddy!

Just For Fun

A random assortment of recent pictures...

On one of the last nights Danielle's kids were here, we had a family dinner and they decided to put on a talent show for us. I had to take a break from filming the talent show to catch these hats everyone was playing with.

I never did get Logan to look at me, but I love this picture anyway. He was so delighted that Sarah was wearing a hat too.

Last week, Logan, Jim, and I had the stomach flu, and I have to say that it was the WORST flu I've ever had in my LIFE (probably amplified because I am already pregnant and sick to my stomach all the time). After I was sure Logan was well over it, I discovered him in the bathroom like this (except he was laying his head on his arm). He told me his tummy ached. Poor kid. It turned out he wasn't sick anymore, though; thank heavens!

The day before we discovered the flu in our home, we hosted a SimplyFun party. We had a HUGE turnout considering the size of our apartment (20 adults +10 kids under 5 years + 2 bedroom apartment= WOW) and hopefully no one got sick from us. Luckily I knew who was coming beforehand, so I was able to make adequate refreshments. Logan helped me make a whole lot of chocolate chip cookies (because quite frankly, I didn't want to come up with a variety...) to go with the whole lot of popcorn I made. Afterwards he was good enough to help me clean the counters. This is my only picture to evidence our party night. (Amazingly, it wasn't overly chaotic, and the kids all played well together.)

For some reason, Logan decided to try on Annie's pajamas one day. He was fascinated with this pair because the foot can either be covered or open, and he doesn't have jammies like that. I think it's impressive that my 3-year old can fit into 12-month clothes so well.

He had another pair on, but when I got the camera he stripped the bottom half off (along with his underwear) so I had to be careful taking the picture.

Pretty Princess

A couple of Sundays ago, I put a new dress on Annie. I'd been waiting 17months for her to fit into it since it was a baby gift! I thought I needed a picture because she looked so pretty, but she thought otherwise.

Run-by photo shoot: This is the BEST shot I got of her in my attempts because she is always on the move.

Logan wanted me to take his picture as well, but he didn't hold still either, so the picture is blurry. (Notice the band-aid on his forehead; he had a little run-in with a driveway.)

I finally had Jim hold her, and she thought it was hilarious trying to escape.
