Studying in His Sleep
Jim is amazing when it comes to sleep. He can fall asleep in almost any position; I am constantly astonished. The other night, he was waiting for me to come to bed, and this is the position I found him in when I got there. He really is asleep, and he didn't wake up when I took the picture. I had to remove his glasses and put his book down for him. He must have nodded off during a very thoughtful moment.

Shopping Impulses and Other Nonsense
I was at the mall yesterday shopping for Jim's birthday. (He wanted a superman t-shirt, and I shopped for three days and an absurd number of hours finding one! Long story...) Anyways, while I was at the mall I came across this cart that sells accessories for babies. Annie is so bald, and it doesn't look like she's going to have hair for a long while yet, so I'm always looking at headbands, even though I've never bought one. Well, they were selling baby headbands that are made to attach barrettes to, and they were super cute! On a very unusual impulse (because I'm NOT an impulse shopper) I bought one. As I walked away the guilt set in. I took the headband out of the bag thinking I'd put it on Annie, and convince myself that she needed it. Instead I got to examining it, and realized it was just a piece of nylon. Here I am trying to save money in every way possible, and I just spent six dollars on a piece of pantyhose! Well, I repented of my impulse and returned it immediately. So when I got home, I experimented with an old pair of knee highs; that's what's on her head. I'm going to see if I know anyone with old hose in other colors.

It's nearly impossible to get them to look at the camera at the same time!

I've been wanting a picture of Logan when he gets out of the bath because I think it's so cute the way he walks around in his towel. He doesn't understand how to hold the towel around himself and walk upright, so he walks around very slowly and hunched over. That is until he decides the towel makes a great cape, lets go altogether, and streaks through the apartment. No pictures of that...

Annie is a tough little cookie. When Logan decides he wants to play with her or love on her, he has to be on top of her. She loves it, too!

He's actually being very gentle in this picture...maybe because she has those sharp little fingernails dug into his cheek!

Sleeping Through the Night
Something that I find humorous about motherhood is the goal of having your children sleep through the night. Do they really care if they wake up twenty times at night? Of course not...because they have you to soothe them and put them back to bed. The real goal is for mommy to sleep through the night. That's what us mommies are really focused on. Don't get me wrong, I love my babies, and some of my favorite snuggle times happen at 3am, but I'm not one of those moms who can sleep with a child in my arms; I'm a light sleeper.
On the morning of these pictures, I realized that it's been about three years since I've slept through the night because it was about that long ago that my pregnancy with Logan began. It was up and down with a super squished bladder for nine months, and then ten months until he slept through the night. Then of course, I was pregnant with Annie just when he started sleeping through the night, and it all began again.
We're in a new phase of not-sleeping-through-the-night now. I took these pictures through bleary eyes because I'd been up with my babies ten times that night. Logan got up seven times! Apparantly, a big boy bed is really wonderful because it means you can get up and get mommy out of bed so she can get up and put you back to bed. He was literally doing it for attention. There were no tears, no injuries, no nightmares, etc... He'd come to me and very calmly say, "N-night." Then I had to carry him back to his bed with his head on my shoulder and cover him up again. Ten minutes later the same thing. He was super sweet and super cuddly every time, but it was the middle of the night! Eventually, I made Jim get up with him because it was obvious he just wanted my attention. That made him mad, and he screamed until Annie was awake and screaming too. (It was still the middle of the night.) Annie needed me two other times that night, too. That is normal for her, though. She slept through the night from the time she was a few weeks old until she hit four months. Then it was over. Logan did that too.
I'm really not complaining...much. I actually find it funny for the most part, and I realize that they'll only be little so long, so I really do try to enjoy the middle of the night snuggle sessions.
Happy morning for a boy who had LOTS of mommy time the night before.

Baby Food and Profanity
When Logan was learning to eat, I bought baby food from the store. For some reason, the thought of making baby food was a little overwhelming to me, and those little jars seemed so convenient. Hundreds of jars and a lot of money later, Logan decided that real carrots just didn't taste like those yummy ones in the jars and neither did peas, green beans, squash, peaches, pears, etc...the list could go on. He still won't eat those foods. So, I decided that I would make homemade baby food when Annie was ready to learn. Hopefully, she'll make a smoother transition to the "real" fruits and veggies.
Today I made my first attempt at making baby food. It was so easy...even easier than a trip to the grocery store. Who knew?! Logan thought it was neat, too. I was using the blender, and he thought I was making him a smoothie...
We made carrots today. Here's Annie after her first carrot meal. (Actually she hated them, the smile is because they were gone.)
While I was making carrot smoothies, I was hearing some interesting sounds from a certain two year old. He has to name everything that he plays with or looks at, and he has a new word this week. The word he was saying didn't sound very nice, and when I looked I realized he was carrying around a stuffed frog. He doesn't quite have the word right, and it comes out as something very profane. Also, his word for truck is "kuk", but for some reason he's been putting an "f" on the front lately, and trucks are one of his favorite things. I'm a little worried what his nursery leaders at church are going to think next week when they hear his new word...
I won't quote what he was saying when I took this picture. I promise he didn't learn it from us!
