Last weekend we went camping at Skaguay Reservoir. We were able to go up on Thursday (one of the benefits of Jim not working) and stay for two nights. We also had a canoe which was very exciting for some of us.
The first thing we did after setting up camp was go out in the canoe. Alex really disliked it because I put him in a life vest, but Annie and Logan loved it.
The next morning Jim took Annie and Logan out to fish from the canoe while I stayed at camp with Alex. (Unfortunately, Annie made Jim bring her back because she wanted me! And then Logan was bored fishing in the canoe and wanted to come back not long after. Poor Jim didn't catch anything that day or the next.)
Friday evening two families joined us. Their little girls had sand buckets, but instead of digging in the sand (because there wasn't any) the kids all dug in an old fire pit. Annie and Audrey had a great time putting dirt in each other's hair.
Annie, Hayley, and Logan.
And it wasn't long before Annie was unrecognizable.
Laura and Mike took their whole family out for a canoe ride as soon as they set up camp.
We had a good time visiting, roasting marshmallows, and enjoying our campfire that night. I love sitting around a campfire! (The first night it rained right as we got the fire going and we ended up in the tent and went to bed. Bummer!)
The next morning was pretty cold. I'd frozen the first night (nobody else did thankfully), and I'd attributed it to the rain. Since it didn't rain the second night I thought it would be warmer; I was wrong. We could still see our breath long after the sun had risen. Jim and the kids were warm and slept great though! (I don't know that that was the experience in the other tents...)
Here's little Lucy; you can also see the misty lake because that cold water was still a lot warmer than the air!
Here is Alex staying warm by our morning campfire.
Colorado weather is really crazy. It wasn't many hours later that we were quite comfortable (and even hot!) in our t-shirts and shorts. We went for a short walk to pick some raspberries that we'd discovered, and Alex loved riding in the backpack.
Can you tell how dirty Annie is? She was totally covered in ashes shortly after getting up in the morning. I changed her clothes and wiped her down, and this is what she looked like probably ten minutes later! Before we came home I changed her clothes again and gave her a bath with baby wipes, and she went straight into the tub at home. The water was brown by the time she was clean (and the other kids hadn't been in with her)!
Audrey hunting for berries! (Or maybe just climbing.)
Cami turned around to give me a smile before she headed down to enjoy throwing rocks in the water.
Mike climbed up a few rocks to pick some berries and ended up with his two littlest girls and Annie in tow. (They figured out that he would pick the berries for them!)
Angela was our berry picking expert. She picked more than any of us!
We ended up with enough berries to divide and take home. Yum!
Smile Laura!
Dan and Rachele came up that morning to join us for breakfast and the day's adventures. Here they are with their little Emily...and one on the way (such a cute baby bump!).
Mike had to rescue a couple of adventurers.
Jay and Lucy
Hanging out by the water's edge...this was a favorite for a lot of the kids.
Hiking back...

We had such a fun trip, and were so glad everyone could join us!
